Otak itu sperti organ lain dalam tubuh kita. Organ ini bisa aus dan rusak seiring waktu. Padahal kita menyadari bahwa otak merupakan salah satu organ vital dalam kehidupan manusia. Jika diibaratkan komputer, maka otak adalah mesin prosesor yang menjadi sistem inti dalam menjalankan kerja komputer.

Hal yang penting disadari adalah otak bisa mengalami penuaan. Sebagaimana kita menyadari resiko penyakit jantung dan kanker. Sehingga perlu ada langkah-langkah yang bisa kita lakukan untuk menguranginya atau dapat memperlambat resiko itu terjadi di usia yang sangat muda. Bayangkan seperti ini, smeua mesin perlu perawatan, contoh saja mobil atau motor anda yang digunakan setiap hari. Onderdil seiring waktu akan mengalami kerusakan, oli atau pelumas harus diganti, dan hal lain yang berkaitan dengan kompenen dalam sepeda atau mobil yang perlu mendapatkan peremajaan. Jikakita tidak melakukan perawatan secara rutin, maka yang terjadi adalah berkurangnya efesiens, bahkan bisa menyebabkan mesin itu berhenti berfungsi.

Akibatnya ketika bangun tugas memori dapat dilakukan lebih cepat dan akurat dengan sedikit stres dan kecemasan.

Tantangan selanjutnya adalah meminimalkan resiko kerusakan dan keausan. juga merawat dan memperkuat serta memperbaiki sel-sel yang rusak sehingga terjadi koneksi yang optimal pada bagian syaraf-syaraf otak. Kabar baiknya, selama beberapa dekade terakhir, para pakar menemukan otak dewasa juga bisa memperbaharuhi kualitasnya. Karena itu, disimpulkan setiap orang mampu untuk mengembalikan bahkan meningkatkan kemampuan otaknya dengan usaha-usaha tertentu. Berikut ini ada beberapa hal yang bisa dilakukan untuk mencegah terjadinya keausan pada otak kita :

  • Menjaga kesehatan tubuh dengan berolahraga
  • Mengasah otak dengan permainan
  • Membaca dan menulis
  • Menagemen stres
  • Istirahat yang cukup
  • Mengkonsumsi makanan yang sehat

Jika kita mau melakukan hal sederhana diatas, kemungkinan besar resiko penuaan akan bisa diminimalisir. Fungsi otak yang sangat penting itu akan optimal dan menjadi sumber kebahagiaan terbesar saat kita semakin dewasa bahkan saat tua nanti. Tujuan yang paling penting adalah memperpanjang kemandirian mental dan fisik kita selama mungkin. Seperti apa yang dikatakan Presiden John F.
