Sebagai orang tua yang memiliki anak dengan tingkat kecerdasan diatas rata-rata pasti kita merasa bangga dan berlomba untuk bisa menyekolahkan anak-anak kita disekolah yang memiliki kelas akselerasi atau kelas unggulan. Namun yang patut kita ingat adalah, pendidikan seutuhnya bagi seorang anak yang unggul tidak saja bergantung pada faktor akademik saja, tapi juga faktor kebutuhan mental, dan spiritual. Artinya anak-anak kita membutuhkan keseimbangan baik akademik maupun mental–spiritual. Anak-anak cerdas tidak cukup hanya sekedar IQ saja yang tinggi, tetapi juga harus memiliki tingkat kreativitas yang baik, serta memliki komitmen tugas, seperti disiplin dan tidak mudah menyerah. Kasih sayang dan perhatian dari orang tua, guru, dan lingkungan sangatlah berpengaruh bagi emosi atau mental anak. Lingkungan yang kondusif bagi perkembangan  anak adalah lingkungan yang tetap up to date dengan perkembangan zaman, dan tugas kita adalah memberikan batasan-batasan yang jelas pada ana-anak kita. Karena di era Informasi, komunikasi & tehnologi yang maju pesat seperti sekarang ini, tidak dapat dipungkiri bahwa anak-anak perlu dibekali semua hal yang memadai untuk menghadapi masa depan mereka, namun dengan tetap tidak meninggalkan perkembangan karakter yang baik pula.

Meningkatkan mutu pendidikan anak usia dini perlu adanya inovasi proses pembelajaran dan pengembangan kecerdasan majemuk dengan prinsip bermain sambil belajar. Kepekaan musikal bukan semata mata untuk menjadikan mereka pemusik, tetapi karena musik dapat melatih kepekaan mereka terhadap seni pada umumnya, serta meningkatkan kepercayaan terhadap lingkungannya. Musik tidak hanya berpengaruh positif terhadap kualitas kehidupan anak, melainkan juga dapat merangsang keberhasilan akademik jangka panjang. Anak yang sejak dini telah dikenalkan pada musik, perkembangan otak kanan dan kirinya akan seimbang. Jika perkembangannya seimbang, maka mereka akan menjadi manusia yang berpikir logis, intuitif, sekaligus cerdas, kreatif, jujur, dan memiliki perasaan yang tajam di masa dewasanya nanti. Oleh sebab itu, implementasi dalam dunia pendidikan adalah bahwa pendidikan musik di tingkat TK/PAUD & SD harus di berikan dengan benar dan tepat. Howard Gardner, dalam penelitiannya, mengungkapkan bahwa otak manusia mempunyai kemampuan yang bersifat multi intelegensi. Penemuan tersebut mematahkan pemahaman bahwa otak manusia hanya memiliki kemampuan tunggal. Namun demikian, bukan berarti intelegensi tersebut tidak dapat berkembang jika bakat musik yang di miliki lemah. Tujuh kemampuan otak manusia yang telah disebut di atas, sesungguhnya saling berkaitan antara kemampuan satu dengan kemampuan lainnya. Misalnya kemampuan musik, yaitu menyanyi. Dalam kegiatan bernyanyi, sesungguhnya anak akan mengembangkan intelegensi logika matematika, intelegensi kebahasaan, intelegensi bodi-kinestik, intelegensi skill building, dan intelegensi intra maupun interpersonal. Selain itu, melalui nyanyian, anak akan lebih mudah menangkap pembelajaran. Dengan kata lain, musik merupakan salah satu pendekatan pengajaran yang cukup efektif untuk mencapai tujuan pembelajaran.

Musik tidak hanya berpengaruh positif terhadap kualitas kehidupan anak, melainkan juga dapat merangsang keberhasilan akademik jangka panjang. Anak yang sejak dini telah dikenalkan pada musik, perkembangan otak kanan dan kirinya akan seimbang. Jika perkembangannya seimbang, maka mereka akan menjadi manusia yang berpikir logis, intuitif, sekaligus cerdas, kreatif, jujur, dan memiliki perasaan yang tajam di masa dewasa kelak. Kemampuan mendengar yang dimaksud (listening), tidak hanya sekedar menangkap suara yang dibunyikan saja, tetapi juga melalui proses aktif yang meliputi aspek menerima dan mengorganisasikan bunyi yang ditangkap. Kemudian mengolahnya menjadi persepsi tentang bunyi, kemampuan tersebut nantinya akan membentuk sikap menghargai nilai-nilai keindahan yang tidak hanya sebatas keindahan yang dapat didengar saja, melainkan juga segala bentuk keindahan yang dapat di tangkap oleh indera manusia.

Perkembangan menciptakan (creating). Seni, baik yang dilihat maupun yang didengar, membantu anak untuk menghasilkan kreasi seni yang unik, mampu berpikir bebas, fleksibel, dan menghasilkan ide-ide baru, misalnya mencoba membuat alat musik sederhana dari barang bekas. Untuk itu, diperlukan bimbingan dan fasilitas yang memadai, dengan mengkondisikan anak untuk selalu berpikir dan berperilaku kreatif sehingga akhirnya memungkinkan anak menghasilkan karya yang benar-benar baru dan orisinil.

Dari begitu banyak manfaat seni, khususnya musik yang telah dipaparkan di atas, pendidikan musik atau seni lainnya di sekolah-sekolah, baik ditingkat dasar maupun di tingkat lanjutan atas kurang mendapat porsi yang memadai. Kurikulum nasional di Indonesia menempatkan pendidikan seni sebagai pengetahuan yang kering dan kurang mendapatkan apresiasi. Seni di sekolah hanya sebatas wahana kompetisi belaka, padahal sekolah adalah tempat menemukan kemampuan dan bukan ajang perburuan target prestasi semata. Sekolah juga masih  menempatkan guru kesenian sebagai pelengkap kurikulum. Hal ini mengakibatkan apresiasi anak tentang seni menjadi dangkal dan penghargaan terhadap bidang studi kesenian menjadi rendah. Permasalahan lainnya adalah kegiatan extra kurikuler atau kegiatan di sanggar-sanggar belum bisa mengembangkan kemampuan seni secara sempurna. Kegiatan di sanggar hanya dapat dijangkau oleh golongan ekonomi menengah ke atas, padahal golongan ekonomi menengah ke bawah jumlahnya lebih banyak. Hal ini akan mempengaruhi kualitas bangsa Indonesia di masa yang akan datang. Sebuah hasil observasi terhadap kebiasaan vandalisme di kalangan remaja mengungkapkan bahwa remaja yang tidak mendapat bimbingan penanaman nilai estetika akan mengekspresikan diri dengan coretan dinding tanpa makna. Objek utamanya adalah kepuasan membabi buta, sehingga hasilnya akan memperburuk tampilan dinding. Sementara, remaja yang mendapat bimbingan penanaman nilai estetika sejak dini akan mengungkapkan eskpresinya dengan coretan yang bermakna, sehingga hasilnya akan memperindah dinding. Tanpa adanya keseimbangan antara otak kanan dan otak kiri, maka akan menghasilkan perilaku yang abnormal. Dominasi otak kiri akan menghasilkan individu yang radikal, sedangkan dominasi otak kanan akan menghasilkan individu pengkhayal.

Kontribusi kami sebagai pelaku seni yang tergabung dalam sebuah komunitas Rumah Literasi Indonesia yang peduli terhadap perkembangan dunia pedidikan dalam hal ini kampanye budaya literasi yang masih terkooptasi oleh pemahaman dangkal bahwa literasi hanya sebatas bidang sastra atau bahasa saja. Padahal literasi adalah kemerdekaan belajar yang tak hanya terbatas pada ruang lingkup bernama sekolah, tetapi secara umum literasi merupakan kewajiban bagi manusia untuk mempelajari alam semesta dengan segala isinya. Oleh karena itu peran kami tak sebatas hanya sosiali saja tetapi langsung terjun di lingkungan masyarakat itu sendiri melalui rumah baca – rumah baca yang telah kami inisiasi. Dengan harapan bisa menjadi alternative ruang bermain dan belajar segala hal yang terkait dengan budaya literasi termasuk budaya membaca. Seni dalam hal ini tak kalah penting dalam membentuk karakter dan kepribadian anak. Melalui seni kami berinteraksi secara langsung dengan mengemas setiap materi dengan konsep bermain sambil belajar. Sekaligus juga mengenalkan berbagai macam ruang ekspresi baik itu drama, puisi, pantomime, music, tari, dan seni rupa.
